Wednesday 8/31

Learning Goal (What will we know): I understand that Earth's biosphere is the part of our planet that supports life, and that living things are connected to all parts of Earth's system.

Relevance (Why do we need to know this?): An understanding of the connections between subsystems on Earth that we can see and understand will help us understand the connections between systems and subsystems that are new to us, and that we cannot easily see.

Success Criteria (What will we do to show that we have reached our learning goal?):
  • Read and understand the Newsela article about the biosphere
  • Correctly answer questions about the article
  • Write a paragraph that describes the connections between biotic and abiotic parts of an ecosystem.

Agenda

Task 1: Question of the Day (in your science notebook): Write definitions for the three words "ecosystem", "biotic" and "abiotic".

Task 2: Go to EdPuzzle, watch the video about Biotic and Abiotic Factors, and take the quiz.

Task 3: Finish any missing or unfinished assignments

Ticket Out: (on the next blank page in your notebook)

  • Critical Thinking: write a few sentences describing how these three words ecosystem, biotic, and abiotic are connected to Earth's four spheres.

Monday 8/29

Learning Goal (What will we know): I understand how to check my grades on Schoolloop, how to communicate with my teachers about work and grades, and what to do to make up missing work.

Relevance (Why do we need to know this?): You need to know this so that you can responsible for your learning and advocate for yourself.

Success Criteria (What will we do to show that we have reached our learning goal?):
  • Be able to log in to Schoolloop and check grades
  • Communicate with teachers about work and grades

Task 1: Bookmark the Lakeview website

Task 2: Log in to Schoolloop and look at your grades

Task 3: Log in to Newsela and start reading the article about the Biosphere

Friday 8/26

Learning Goal: Learn how to work together as a team.

Cup Stack Lab Purpose: You will work with your table group to make a pyramid of 10 paper cups without touching them.

Follow the written instructions to complete the task, then go to Google Classroom to answer the questions (each team member will complete the written assignment in Google Classroom).
  • Was anyone frustrated during the activity? If so, how was it handled?
  • Why was teamwork important for this activity?
  • What is hard about teamwork?
  • What is good about working with others to solve problems?

Learning Goal (What will we know): I understand that Earth is a system made up of four major subsystems: the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.

Relevance (Why do we need to know this?): The concept of systems and subsystems is important to understand when learning about any science.

Success Criteria (What will we do to show that we have reached our learning goal?):

  • Watch EdPuzzle videos about Earth Systems and pass each quiz with at least 6 out of 8 questions correctly answered.
